There is a video floating around the internet that documents how the standard diet the average family consumes is processed by the body. Basically, they test the urine of a family and find pesticides, chemicals, and all sorts of nasty things in it. The family then eats an organic/clean diet for a few weeks and their urine is again tested, but this time it is much more clean and contains far fewer chemicals. While the focus of this video is mainly on the use of pesticides and eating organic, it highlights the importance of how our bodies process various contaminents. This is why it is so important to avoid chemicals and preservatives if you suffer from IC. Everything filters though the bladder. A normal healthy bladder may be able to tolerate these things (although, I still don’t think it’s healthy), but sensitive IC plagued bladder walls break down more easily and are susceptible to these irritants. Even if you think you’re not bothered by these items, imagine what they’re doing to your bladder over time. Maybe you don’t have pain now, but weeks later have a flare. These chemicals compounding in your bladder are most certainly part of the problem. Please check food labels! Avoid common bladder aggravators like pesticides, preservatives, BHT, TBHQ, MSG, etc. and eat organic, if/when possible. Sending love to your bladders!
